Dwayne Johnson all but confirmed his action badboy status with his entrance as Special Agent Hobbs in Fast and Furious 5.
On Sunday, Johnson confirmed suspicions that Hobbs would be back for Furious 8 in 2017, and speculated about a potential spin off for his fan adored character.
“It can’t go on without Hobbs,” Johnson told Collider in a recent interview.
As for the potential spin off, Johnson told the site conversations surrounding the possibility of it making its way to the pre-production phase have already been set in motion.
“We are all interested in it. I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we’ll see,” he said. “I still think for me personally we’ve created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what the audience will want. That’s my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input.”
Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster have all confirmed they will reappear in the eight installment as well.
With the exception of the third Fast and Furious film, Tokyo Drift, number eight will be the first film without Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor.
Fast and Furious 8 is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2017.
